Breast Cancer Awareness Month (2022)
Breast Cancer Awareness Month (2022)
Breast cancer is the second most fatal cancer in women in the US and causes 30% of all new cases of female cancer each year. In fact, according to Breast Cancer Now, breast cancer is prevalent worldwide, with one woman being diagnosed with breast cancer every ten minutes in the UK. Despite these sobering facts, breast cancer awareness has come a long way in recent years.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s one of the most important months of the year when it comes to raising awareness about the disease. Throughout the month, various organizations hold events and campaigns to promote early detection and raise funds for research.
What is this month all about?
Vision and Objectives
The purpose of pink month is to achieve health justice for everyone at risk of developing breast cancer and those who already have it. Organizations focus on systemic interventions, including laws, organizations, and practices, to accomplish this.
The following objectives are also pursued during Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
- Promoting diagnostic screenings
- Raising awareness about the effects of disease
- Financing mammograms for low-income women
- Reaching out to vulnerable women in the community
- Educating marginalized communities about breast health
There are many ways that people can get involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) offers a variety of ways for people to show their support, including fundraising events, pink ribbon products, and educational resources. NBCF also provides a free online mammogram registration service that makes it easy for people to find a screening nearby.
How to promote awareness?
Despite all the progress made in recent years, much work is still to be done to fight breast cancer. According to CDC, there are still about 266,120 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed each year in the United States, and more than 41,000 women die from the disease each year.
So what can you do to promote breast cancer awareness? The most important thing is to get regular screenings. Mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer early when it is most treatable. Talk to your doctor about when you should start getting mammograms and how often you should have them done.
