Breast self-examination and ultrasound

A breast self-exam (BSE) allows an individual to examine her breast tissue for any physical or visual changes and is highly recommended as an early detection method for breast cancer. Women should perform a BSE at least once each month beginning at the age of 18.
If you find a lump or notice other unusual changes, schedule an appointment with your doctor for further examination. Though most are non-cancerous, any breast lump should be thoroughly examined by breast ultrasound, mammography, and/or MRI.
