Defining Lipedema
Lipedema/Lipoedema typically develops after a major hormonal change, such as puberty, pregnancy, or menopause. During the onset of the disease, the body’s fat cells increase in size, leading to enlargement in areas such as the hips, thighs, buttocks, and arms.
Lipedema Symptoms
- There is a significant buildup of fat on either the upper arms, thighs, calves or buttocks
- The affected areas are sensitive to touch and may even be painful even when light pressure is applied
- The skin is easily bruised
- A presence of fat deposits or nodules under the skin, making it appear bumpy
