Mole check

Mole check is one of the most important tasks of a dermatologist. Every single skin area is examined to detect atypical or malignant moles; the clinical appearance is compared with a dermoscopic image, a closer vision of pigment and mole structure is obtained with a special lens.

Moles presenting malignant or irregular features can then be removed with a surgical excision in order to prevent malignant melanoma, one of the most aggressive malignant cancers. This check should be performed every year.
