Breast reconstruction is intended to rebuild the shape of the breast according to the needs and desires of the patient and can be done simultaneously with a mastectomy.
The reconstructed breast will not have the same sensation and feel as before since the only tissue remaining on the chest wall is a muscle and a thin layer of skin and nerves were removed during the surgical procedure and cannot be restored.
If only one breast is affected, we might consider a breast lifting, reduction, or augmentation for the other breast to create a symmetric and natural look and to improve the size and the position of both breasts. Breast reconstruction can have a huge impact, physically and emotionally, with visible incision lines always present, but with the right care, it can actually enhance your self-confidence, femininity, and feelings of wholeness.
